Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does the Starr Menstrual Cup work?
The Starr Menstrual Cup has been specifically designed to collect your menstrual flow rather than absorb it like a tampon. Its cup shape allows the Starr Menstrual Cup to fit comfortably up against your vaginal walls. It doesn’t touch your cervix as it sits just below it. The outer rim has been cleverly designed to help create a suction that keeps the Starr Menstrual Cup in place and collects your menstrual flow inside of it. If you look carefully, near the top of the rim there are small holes which help release the suction when you wish to remove the cup.

What is the Starr Menstrual Cup made from?
The Starr Menstrual Cup is made from 100% medical grade silicone.

Can menstrual cups cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)?
Menstrual cups have been used safely for 75 years and there is no proven link between their use and TSS.

Is the Starr Menstrual Cup uncomfortable? Will I feel it?
It looks like it would be but just like a tampon you will forget it is even there. Like when you first tried tampons, it might take a couple of goes to get it to the right spot for you – once you do you, you won’t feel a thing.

Can using Starr Menstrual Cups be messy?
We won’t lie and say it can’t – the first time it might be. But once you get comfortable with it, it’s cleaner than tampons. Tampons often smell due to the absorption and can be messy if it was a heavy day. With the Starr Menstrual Cup, once you have worked out your method, it’s easy to take out, tip into the toilet without having to look and then just give it a quick rinse/wipe and pop back in. The best method is to just do your change overs in the shower first thing in the morning and last thing before you go to bed. The rest of the time, you will completely forget you have your period.... except for that occasional chocolate craving!. JUST A FEW TIPS: If the suction seal is not properly released before you remove the cup, it can sometimes be messy. Once you learn to release the cup properly, there should not be any problem. Pulling the Starr Menstrual Cup out too fast or by tipping it at too steep an angle could cause some messiness.

Will the Starr Menstrual Cup Leak?
No, the Starr Menstrual Cup doesn’t leak. If used incorrectly it could cause leakage: If the cup has not been inserted properly or if something has caused the cup to move out of place, some leakage may occur.
